October-November-December 2005

For the second year in a row Chris Ligon and Heather McAdams invited us to play their Country Calander Show. We were very happy to be invited back as it's a great fun event. Chris and Heather are great Country Music fans and Heather draws artful interpretations of all the big classic country stars and sells her calander to the people. They are full of fun art like this drawing of Red Sovine and there is a featured classic artist for each month. If you want to buy one you can get yours from:

This is Heather McAdams, artist extraordinaire and fun person bar none introducing the Gin Palace Jesters who will be playing some hits by none other than Red Sovine hisself.

Steel man Buddy Carter had another gig already booked so Gabrial Stutz was procured to play some Red Sovine music as a Jester. Dave noticed Gabe's glasses looked alot like Red Sovine's.

So he borrowed them to joke around a bit. Maybe 5 or 6 people knew he was goofing on Red's version of "Little Rosa" but obviously Ken got the joke.

The boys played Red's western tune "Outlaw" and the rockin "Juke Joint Johnny".

To cover the "talky" portion of Red's career Ken led the fellas through the sacred "If Jesus Came To Your House".

Dave picked up a relic of Bakersfield's guitarmaking past a 1964/65 Joe Maphis model Mosrite. The twang was quite terriffic!

Here's our pal Casey McDonough with the house band the Western Elston's complete with buck teeth inserts...what a fun time. Thanks Chris and Heather and invite us back next year!

A gig with Dale Watson

The Gin Palace Jesters played a gig in December 2005 with the current Texas Troubadour, Dale Watson. Here Dave poses with Dale for a quick backstage photo because if you don't photograph it then, it never happened right?

Ken joins in after giving Dale some kolachkis from Vesecky's bakery.

The Gin Palace Jesters did their level best to warm up the crowd.

"I'm a Honkytonk Foooooolllll!!!!!"

Dave poses with the lovely fraulein Yvonne. Hi Yvonne!

Dale Watson sings real country songs.

In November the Gin Palace Jesters ventured up into the North woods of Wisconsin with the Hoyle Brothers for a few shows. Here you can see Ken and Casey of the Gin Palace Jesters with Doyle Hoyle, Jack Hoyle, Lance and "Muttonhead"??? We're not sure where steel man Jerry got a nickname like that but it's probably a good story.

There was alot of mixing and matching of musicians at these affairs

The Gin Palace Jesters' mic stand at the HIDEOUT-CHICAGO

We played a gig with "Hardscrabble" who call themselves the "jugless jugband" and that pretty much sums it up.

This is a cool trio that our bassist Casey Stockdon plays in with John Hasbrouck and Lawrence Peters.

John Hasbrouck is a helluva good finger style picker and owns a couple of these National Resonator guitars.

Lawrence Peters is the "Washboard Cannonball"

Casey even gets to play his banjo in this outfit.

Here is a picture of Lawrence's bellybutton.

Casey changed his shirt to play with the Gin Palace Jesters. He is like Cher with all the outfit changes.

The boys make music...sometimes.
